Methow Pinnacles 7562’ (USGS  Mt. Arriva) 1002’P  5/4/2008

I was joined this fine outing day by Mike T., Mike C., Paul K., Don B., Eric J., Martin S., Dave C., and Matt B.

We left from the 150 milemarker pullout on the North Cascades Highway.  We left at 9:30 and went to the left of the stream that was there.  From there it was pretty easy straight up and go to the top.  I really never lead yesterday which was an absolute joy!  (Still healing from knee surgery…and I have gained some weight).    Snow was soft when we left the live trees and entered the burned out trees around 5000 feet, where we put on snowshoes, but then snow went somewhat hard again around 6800 feet and the snowshoes came off.  Class 2 max.  Great views all around.  Found the summit register from Fay, and who was also the last person to sign in.  About 5 hours round trip—including breaks.

This is a fine spring outing and recommended for all you folk out there.

One of the most straightforward, efficient trips to a high viewpoint I've ever done.

As Stefan said, park at milepost 150, walk uphill on the left side of the stream and on up the ridge for 4000 feet and you're there.  Enjoy the panoramic summit view for an hour in the sun.  Then jog or glissade back down to the cars, all in only about 5 1/2 hours.  (Feasible for me only because other people kicked all the steps.)


The view was also a great review for my trips last year, because it included all the summits from my trips to  Gabriel, Goode, and Silent Lakes.

Matt, two grand panos!  Superb!  The second one gives a greater understanding(360 degrees); and, I love the first....it takes you into the heart of the North Cascades, close up and personal with some peaks one rarely hears about.  The summit you visited offers a fascinating overview and angle for panos....can't wait for more photos of this expedition...5 hours?!  Amazing!
