Never been to the Enchanments. Myself and a few similar clowns have permits to head up that way sometime during the first couple weeks in August. Given the above average snowpack this year what sort of snow amounts might we expect to see up there at that time of year? Obviously it depends on several things, just looking for some guesstimates from some of the more experienced folks out there. Thanks!

Was there 8/18 thru 8/20 in '99, which I'm sure you remember was the BIG year. Aasgard was mostly snow free, but the lakes of the uppers were just melting. Lots of snow in the upper basin, but plenty if open areas to camp too. Crystal, Rune, and Talisman all had some snow. Kind of cool because all the creeks and falls were at full speed. Was there mid-week and only ran into people every couple hours, which I didn't think was too bad for there.

Ive been in eight times. Two times via snow lakes, six times over asgaard pass. I'll take asgaard any day! The only reason I'm going in via snow lakes this year is that the road to colchuck will be closed! It's difficult to properly guesstimate the amount of snow the uppers have recieved this year (still snowing) I'd expect the uppers to be passable without any real difficulty by august. My permits are the third week of august. Best thing to do is regularly check with the leavenworth ranger station as you get close to hiking time. Since you'll probably be going in snow lakes, take lots of water. Get as early a start as possible. (I'd start at 3am via headlamp myself) The begining is a grind without a ton of water spots available. Most people dont make in in one day. The night is spent at Nada or Snow lakes, with a push over the ridge to viviane the next day. If you are in good shape and lack WEIGHT in your pack you can make it to viviane on one day. There arent a lot of sites to camp at viviane so good luck! http://www.topozone.com/map.asp....&size=l http://terraserver.homeadvisor.msn.com/image.a....=10&W=2

Mt Goat, I'm guessing the weekends are much worse, judging by the amount of people we saw going in on friday when we were on our way out. We never saw anyone near our camp which was secluded in the cliffs (great bouldering) west of Rune. During the week it didn't seem anymore over crouded than somewhere like Big Heart. If this is the Randy that posts here all the time, he'll make in in one shot.

Good comments, shanks. BP Joe, you're slippin'. Ya gonna let a couple missing bridges stop you from making a trailhead? I'll do what I can to avoid going in and out via the Snow Lake trail. Some sort of through hike would be nice, but we haven't gotten to those sorts of details quite yet.

Hey, if you like seeing lots of people during midweek, go someplace where they require reservations. That way you are guaranteed to see someone! Examples: Mt St Helens, Mt Adams, Enchantments, portions of Rainier and Olympics. I wonder if you need reservations to be on the reservation on Adams.

You got some darn nice photos joe. You ever think of some web space, even a freebie spot, to park an album or 2? NN smile.gif

It's pretty safe to say that if we take all of man kinds accumulated knowledge, we still don't know everything. So, I hope you understand why I don't believe you know everything. But then again, maybe you do.
