Anyone recall the details of the semi-infamous Meadow Creek "toilet paper" fire at Lake Chelan several years back?
My recollection is hazy, but I seem to remember a group of inexperienced out of state hikers had read in a hiking book that they should burn their toilet paper, thereby starting a forest fire. Can anyone add any details?
A fuxk, why do I not give one?

I worked with the person who started the fire. He is a physician and (I am not kidding) graduated from Harvard. He had actually read in a brochure put out by the forest service that you should burn your toilet paper when in the backcountry. The brochure apparently was distributed for the forests back east (i.e. Maine, New York). I am sure the brochure has been amended since then.

I was on that fire in 1985, we built firelines did mopup, the most interresting part of that fire was finding that almost every stump that
was within 100' of lk.Chelan had numerouse deer bones stuffed
up inside them, the cougers would make a kill and put them there
so they could get a cool drink while they were feasting.
