(This is my first posting so be kind....) Ignoring the previous nights portentous weather, Larry, and digger, Malachai C, & myself,(advance party) ....and Mark, Yet, Barb, Peggy, hiker who's name I missed,(sorry) made the hike up Pratt Mt. The trail started out snowfree and the skies were clearing! Snow cover started at the last switchback nearly to Talapus Lake. the first footbridge across the creek was clear. the second had a lingering pile. Snow cover was continuous now until we branched off to Ollalie Lake. Snow returned after the first few switchbacks, causing us to use the direct route along the creek to the lake. The bushwack was clear and steep talus was mossy yet not slippery! We reached the surprisingly snowfree upper trail, with peek a boo views
A disturbing sight was a spring killed fawn (froze or starved? or lost?) on the upper trail (removed on descent). We followed the trail about a mile then talus again or snow (your choice) to the summit.

The bugs and mist caused us to start heading down where we met the rest of the party ascending. On the descent we wandered around a bit "exploring" the Talapus area for the crossings. On top around 8...back to the cars by 11....Highlight of the hike....Yet's brownies!!!

The brownies are back? Yeah! I'm coming next week (as long as there's no prancing involved).

How did the dreaded "rock step" go? Pictures? When I went up last winter it was covered in snow. I have yet to see a picture of it.

Lynda, way to go on your first post! up.gif Anyway, how can anyone not be kind with you? You're like Skittles, whenever you are on the hikes, there is always a rainbow. smile.gif For those who have not met her, she is the delightful half of the Malachai Constant Team. Not that MC is not delightful. wink.gif ps: Will post TR add-ons and pics later.

Lynda-good job on your first TR. I very much enjoyed meeting you and talking about Spain. It made the last few miles heading out fly by in no time. Nice to meet Kirk from New York too and I finally got to taste Yet's legendary brownies. Another great TNAB hike with good company. BTW -the boulder field looked intimidating at first but turned out to be my favorite part of the hike.

pratt mountain
Lynda, great trip report, mystery hiker is Kirk from New York. Barb, I really enjoyed the chance to hike with you and get to know you some more - what a wonderful life you have and are living. You are such a classy lady agree.gif Pratt was lots of fun - boulder fields and snow fields and bush whacks, wide handsome trails, and great views. Once more thanks to TNAB for another fun evening, learning a new mountain, and another adventure! Yet - the brownies, indeed were fabulous.
