At noon on Monday, wildernessed and I met twodogdad at the Robinson Mountain trailhead. Twodogdad had just done both Gardners in the previous 3 days (lots of miles and gain) but was still game for another big one. Robinson involves 14 miles and over 7000' of gain, which we did in 1 1/2 days.
GPS route (from Rob) Robinson Route drawn on Google Earth Rob and I met Niko (who just did the Gardners) at the Robinson Creek trailhead
The 5-hour trip to our 5700' camp had three distinct parts. First a gradual walk up Robinson Creek, then a steep trail up Beauty Creek, and finally a trail-less meadow and alpine forest climb up to camp. We arrived at 5pm and after dinner twodogdad and I disappointed Rob by diving into our tents early, pleading lack of sleep.
Robinson Creek bridge, closed to horses because of obvious damage First view of Robinson (single small snow patch directly in the middle) from Beauty Creek crossing. Rest break at Beauty Creek, just before trail starts to gain serious elevation The trail peters out here as the route heads directly up this steep meadow Campsite Dinner with Rob and Niko at 5700' on Robinson Mountain
The next day we got a "wildernessed start" (as twodogdad put it) at 5:30 am. Most of the snow in the basin had melted so we were forced to gain the SE ridge up a loose and exhausting screen slope. Once on the ridge the footing and views improved and we steadily scrambled up many blocky ridge bumps. That brought us to a easy and mostly flat middle ridge section, but now with views to the south as well.
Early 6am start up the scree slope Niko working up sreen and rock on the ridge Rock scrambling on SE ridge Mount Robinson from top of SE ridge
We had some concern about the final ridge because of 75 scramble's description of an "airy 60-foot section of absorbing knife edge rock". But we missed the fun by passing below it on the S, wasting all that worry. On the other hand we did find an absorbing gendarme that looked scary at first, then turned out to have solid rock and big buckets all the way up making it the highlight of the ascent.

A hot day was brewing but it was still pleasantly cool at 9am when we reached the top and spent a long time soaking in the views. We descended the same way we came up. Twodogdad was the most cautious scrambler higher up, but once we got down to the scree slope his aggresive skiing skillz emerged and he beat us all back to camp.

The rest of the second day consisted of a long hot walk out. Wildernessed and I enjoyed a big fat burger at Jack's Saloon in Winthrop while twodogdad retrieved his namesake canines which he had boarded there. It was great getting to know wildernessed and twodogdad, as well as doing a first ever climb in the Pasaytens for me (and wildernessed too, I believe).

For added excitement, we saw a big fire burning across the Columbia near Wenatchee on the way to Rob's house.

What a hot, hard, beautiful, and absorbing trip. My first in the ...
Welcome to the Pasayten !
It was great to get out with Niko yet again, and to meet Monty, nwhikers has yet to disappoint. The people I have had the pleasure to get out with have been most excellent . Thanks for sharing these precious moments with me. Great TR Monty.
The area we were in was gorgeous, and peaceful, the scramble and views jaw dropping. There is a whole lot of Washington up there, and the peaks, ridges, and valleys seem endless.
Beauty Creek Waterfalls Beauty Creek trail Beautiful meadows full of wildflowers. Silver Star revealed. Moving up the basin. Lower Robinson Basin GG Alpine Vapor carried well at 2lb. 3 oz. Scree slope from camp to the ridge. Niko gaining the ridge. Ridge Stuff Niko and Monty enjoy a nice ridge walk with Robinsons Peak teasing them. Niko still smiling, after doing the Gardners before this ! Monty taking a break. You can see Monty's red pack on the gendarme. Niko putting some moves on. Looking back at part of the ridge from the summit. Basin E of summit. You could follow Beauty Creek farther North, avoid the entire ridge and walk up to the summit via this route.

I'll add my photos a bit later (and with some trepidation since my two good companions have better legs AND eyes) but I need to pay tribute to Rob (who did not get slowed down by a new pair of boots and a bane of blisters) and Monty prancing up and down that ridge with his hands in his pockets-- exposure? what exposure?! I had to crawl on all fours, fives, and even sixes sometimes (a new technique I picked up from RichP, at N Gardner), so I missed precious photo ops--but I hope the courage those three instilled in me will make me a better photographer, next time. Thank you gentlemen: it was a very memorable outing. tddrobinson1-MontyRob Robinson2-Rob Robinson3-Monty Robinson4-OsceolaCarru Robinson5-CarruEtc Robinson6-Eldo Robinson7-SSW robinson8-sw robinson9-N
