The trail to the top of Mount Rose, #814, doesn't play around...3500 feet of gain in 3 miles. The trailhead is on the road to Staircase along Lake Cushman. After two miles, the trail splits. You have two choices to reach the summit. Makes for a nice loop. Near the top (left trail only), you walk through burned trees from a recent forest fire. To get the best view, you have to climb up a rock at the top and look down on Lake Cushman.

Yep ... that's Ellinor over there. Here's the profile from a little closer when I was there last year.

I've got Mount Rose on my list. After your TR, I'm gonna try and hit that one this year instead of putting it off. Looks like a great hike. -c

Mount Rose is awesome, a good work out without the crowds and some nice forest on the right summit fork.

Yea thanks for the report. This looks like something I would enjoy. Perhaps sooner rather than later.
