Today it was Jayden and I going for a hike in the Glacier View Wilderness. It was foggy from Edmonds to Eatonville, so we were a little nervous if we would see the mountain today or not. The road was very bumpy but we got to the Lake Christine TH at 10:15. The trail starts out pretty steep but there was no snow til we got to the lake. There was just a trace but the lake was froze over. We rounded the lake and headed for Mt. Beljica. We found the side trail leading up to the peak and we were on the top not more than a hour from leaving the truck. At the top Jayden noticed the lookout on top of Gobblers Knob and he wanted to go see it. We took a break and headed that way.

We started losing a lot of elevation and got to the bottom at Goat lake. It was only partially frozen. We started gaining again until we got to the saddle. We saw a trail heading up to the rocks and soon found out that this was just a goat trail. We scrambled the steep rocks and went through some bushes and found the real trail again. We made it to the Gobblers Knob lookout and the camp robbers were waiting for us. Jayden had some fun with them and we took a short break. We jogged down hill for a while and were making good time. So we decided to check out Beljica meadows on the way back. The lake there was frozen over too. We were almost back to the truck when some guys with some guns told us that they saw some fresh cougar tracks on the trail. eek.gif Got back to the truck and someone decided to put some garbage in the back of my truck confused.gif Anyway, it was a great day to hike and got lucky with some nice views. Trip stats-10.2 miles over 2000 elev. gain in 5.5 hours

That's a fun hike. Did it involve a road walk or did the NPS fix the 3-4 mile road to the TH?

We drove on FS road #59 and #5920 to get to the TH for the Glacier View wilderness. This road is outside of the National Park. I think you might be asking about the Westside Road, and I don't know about those conditions. If you are asking about road #5920, there is a spot about a half mile from the TH that requires a high clearance vehicle. My truck made it but that was the worst spot.

Do you guys know what Beljica means? It means approximately "little white one" in Yugoslavian or Russian or some other slavic language.

I didn't know that but in this case Beljica is actually the first letters of the first names of the family that climbed it first. smile.gif
