LOL! they dismissed me due to my experiences. My favorite question was when they asked if anyone had been a victim of a crime- out of 40 people in the 'pool' only 3 did not raise their hands.

As an officer of the court, I feel compelled to suggest that all of you forbear from a public discussion of how to insincerely respond to voir dire questions as a means to avoid getting empaneled on a jury. To all of you who have served, or who may in the future serve, on a jury panel, thank you.

I have been tossed off every jury panel I have ever been on, one side always does not want a duty expert. More for technical expertise than legal. frown.gif

I in no way misled or 'tried' to get out of my civic duty. They asked and I answered honesttly- Which is Exactly what is required. The judge thanked me for my honesty.

Badger, if you accurately and sincerely answered the voir dire questions, then my comment was not directed at you.

I actual would love to serve on more juries feel it is my duty and also it is interesting, plus I am self employed so I do not lose income either when I attend I am just amazed how two people can answer the same question with the same answer and one is dropped and the other is kept, I must have fit another profile I guess

BigSteve- Thanks. I am sure you would not pre-judge. I admit I was a bit put off by your statment and truly appreciate your response. Thanks for clarifying. Yes, I was completely honest. It is my nature. In or out of court. I especially would not want anyones fate to be unfarly determined. I agree that many people do whatever they can to get out of their civic duties. To bad the system does nto allow for these individuals to 'opt out'. It would save the courts a lot of time and hassle. Not to mention putting them on a jury would not be beneficial to seeing justice done. Again, thanks for the clarification BigSteve.

I've also heard of folks talking about ways -- in a joking manner -- to avoid jury duty by skewing their answers during voir dire, but when I went through it, I didn't sense anybody was doing so. Everybody seemed to be taking the process seriously.

I tend to believe that if a person does not want to be there, they might not do their best to listen and hear everything said and they might not in turn do the system "justice" I also remember one time a newspaper in the seattle area ran an article on what an attorney looks for when "interviewing" prospects for the jury too It might also depends on the population of the jury pool maybe on what answers is acceptable or not to the court or the attornies just my opinion is all

Please note that I used the word "forbear." I did not accuse anyone of having already crossed the line, but it certainly appeared that somebody was getting very close to crossing the line.

We'll just agree to disagree on that.

Only referring to my one experience. I'm sure you've seen otherwise.

Okay, that's fair. >90% of my trials have been bench trials, but I've voir dired (yeah, we lawyers colloquially use that as a verb) a few flippant jury pool participants. I saw one smartass jerk summarily charged with contempt and hauled away by a sherrif's deputy. It was quite a tense courtroom. I don't know what happened to him.

If it was in recent years, maybe he got water boarded.
