I lead a group of Mountaineers on a hike today to Carkeek Park. Everyone showed up for the hike -- amazing, given the fact that it was cold and rainy (sleet). We saw a bit of wild life -- a varied thrush, a heron high in a tree, and a few mallards along the little loop through the wetlands. We walked down to the beach, too, to see how the oil spill was doing -- we'd heard it had moved back from the other side of the Sound to this side -- and indeed they had it cordoned off from the oil spill where Pipers Creek flows into the Sound. From where we stood on the beach we didn't see any oil though we had heard it had returned and was showing up on beaches between Carkeek Park and Edmonds.
