Thursday's TNAB trip to Teneriffe during intermittent rain and drizzle turned into a wacky race to the summit.
Waterfall: rushing
Rain: dropping at terminal velocity
Snow: abruptly starts at 3200 feet
Summit: clouds whirling by (anyone get a picture?)
Racers in no particular order:
Yukon "Red Max" 222, Malachai "Proffessor Pat Pending" Constant, EWB, Zeusdaddy as half of the "Gruesome Twosome", "Dick Dastardly" Moosefish with "Mutley", Seattlehikertoo, Mesahchie "Sergeant Blast" Mark, "Penelope" Alti-Babe "Pittstop", Runningbird, Dicey, "Private Meekly" Magnum, "Peter Perfect" Nordic, Caitlin, Omega Chris & friend, "Lazy Luke" Larry, Craig, Ryan, Victoria, "Rufus Ruffcut" Adrewski, GQhikerboy, Ben, Kenny...

If I knew you were going to hand out cool nicknames, I would have raced you up the mountain, too.

Well the conditions were not the best for photography but the conditions were great, much easier with the snow than ice. Impressive cornice on top.

The battle's over and the dust is clearing
Disciples of the Snow Dog sound the knell
Rejoicing echoes as the dawn is nearing
By-Tor, in defeat, retreats to Hell
Snow Dog is victorious
The land of the Overworld is saved again
Congrats on your win, Magnum. You are a worthy opponent.

God, you two were screaming up so fast you should've left a trail of melted snow behind you. Good job to the both of you.

I was thinking about TNAB'ers as I was coming down little si and looking over at the seemingly worse weather the further east I looked.

Yesterday I was thinking of changing my handle to Muttly, how coincidental is that?

Did you ever get above the rain line and into where it actually was snowing? Was there much fresh/new powder up top or is it all pretty consolidated?

Consolidated snow - no need for traction devices. Poles helpful. Continuous snow at 3800' or so. 4" new or a bit more the last 300' to the summit. One brief 60' glissade near the summit.
33° with 15mph wind at the summit last night.

You guys rock! That climb is brutal!
My legs bagged it at the falls, so I retreated to about 2,000', jumped the creek, side-hilled to the road on a beautiful quiet faint boot trail, and then hiked up to about 3,300' for some switchback views and lovely solitude.
Canon PowerShot is in the shop so only snapped one shot with my Blackberry in the steep. I raised my eyes for just a second from the grueling slippery trail and saw this smiling back at me. Made me chuckle out loud.
Smile!
Good to see everyone again!

I found my micro-spikes quite helpful on the way up but even more so on the way down (on the snow portion, of course). I was able to walk on the crust without any sliding.
As far as the poles go - I would upgrade "helpful" to "essential." Normally, I'm not a big fan of poles (although lately I discovered that they really do help going up when it's really steep), however, when it comes to trails like this one, on the way down, I just can't imagine doing it without poles.

Good job! I would have gone if my work wasn't keeping me late. Hopefully I will catch you'll soon.

There were a few sucker holes, speedy clouds, and glimmers of sun on our glorious ascent. There was ample wind and just enough wine to mitigate the chill at the summit, where we were treated to panoramas of a large cornice and a summit cairn. Yes, the TNABers, pre-NABers, and RaceNABers trounced Teneriffe, but Teneriffe nearly enacted revenge on our way down as a few in our group began sauntering (or should I say stumbling) down the wrong ridge.
I burned what was left on my camera battery on the cable trail at Tiger earlier in the afternoon, so you will have to settle for my IPhone.

All in all, a nice trip with food at the Pour House waiting to refuel our aching bones and twisted ankles.
I should note that now there is a rope across the new way, which according to Yukon is about 6/10 longer than the old way. Is that verified?
