north twin sister 6-11-09
when one of my friends invited modern and me to join him on north twin sister, my eyes lit up. this scramble was as good i had heard!
tons of info out there about this trip so i will spare the route description and just give you an update on conditions.
rode and pushed our bikes up, maybe 70% pushing for me. did not use an ice axe on ascent. the route was very straightforward.
descending the snow was steep but excellent for kicking steps face in with an ice axe for 100-150', then glissading or plunge stepping.

great rock, really sticky. really, really fun day!
for those who would like(routefinding on the roads is the crux), here are modern's gps waypoints:
NAD 27 GPS waypoints for N Twin Sisters road access
10U 570683 5401746 car
10U 572497 5399466 right turn off major road onto another improved road
10U 571265 5398195 Left Fork—road still good
10U 571325 5396859 Left onto very overgrown road
10U 572201 5396750 trail head
That's good news the bridge over the Middle Fork Nooksack is open for public foot and bike travel. The mining company roads guy told me the company rebuilt that bridge last summer after the County condemned the old bridge. Something to do with the insurance company. A reputable source says there have been car break-ins at that small parking area, particularly cars left overnight.
