Be advised the Cascade River Rd is closed due to a washout caused by debris that came down, looks to be avalanche debris that cut loose during a couple major rainstorms that hit us late afternoon yesterday. NPS was able to clear a wide enough path this morning to allow all stuck up there overnight to get out. 2nd part of the wash out sloughed the road away so it may be closed for some time. Add 2 mi to the hike to reach the TH.
EDIT: Here's the pics
This morning after NPS worked all night into the morning to get a path cleared

That is gnarly.
We were driving out of the Sauk when the rain started, and I worried that some of the people camped by the river would get washed away in a flash flood.
Hopefully nothing like that happened to anybody and the only damage was to roads and itineraries.
We were going to Cascade pass if my buddies wife was going with us. But she didn't, so we didn't go there. Thanks Eileen!

Thanks Ingunn, they seem to think it may be fixed in a few days. I'd contact the RS mid week see what they think. They were able to clear a path out in 13 hours with 1 backhoe and I would imagine they'll have other equipment coming up. But it didn't look good.

See NCNP has updated the road information for Cascade River Rd:
Elevation at road's end: 3,660'. Gated at MP20, Eldorado Pit, until further notice due to washouts caused by extreme weather events on the evening of July 25th.
Yea, extreme would be a good place to start...

That's a mile less! Well, tipically it's closed up to there during the snowy months, so I guess thats not too bad...

Wow I was going to climb Buckner last weekend but backed out Friday evening when I saw the forecast - 30% chance of thunderstorms. The possibility of lightning scared me off. I had no idea it was going to pour like that.

Well, the positive thing here is all that debris that was piled on top of the snow left over from the winter avalanches has now washed below the road and won't result in the road blowing out when the floods hit this November.

Not so sure about that, we heard that a heli overflight of the debris path showed more avi debris waiting for the next rain storm to come down.

Update, now Open..kinda
Elevation at road's end: 3,660'. Open to Cascade Pass trailhead, but expect delays as road repair is still ongoing.
Repair work at mile 12.7 (USFS) is planned for September 2009 (road will close during this construction). Road is narrow, please drive SLOWLY.
