This was my first solo hike and is my first trip report... I headed out from Sunrise arount 8:00 a.m. to Mount Fremont Lookout. The sun was shining but the wind was very cold. I was surprised to see frost on the way up and even slipper rocks due to the frost. I only saw a couple of people on the way up. Only one guy up at the lookout relaxing and enjoying the morning. I sat and took in the views and then headed back down. Just a few steps down the trail I noticed a bunch of white things off in the distance...I watch to make sure they moved and it was about 10 goats having some breakfast. When I got back down to Frozen Lake, I didn’t want the hike to end so went to Berkeley Park to look for Marmots. I got to see about four marmots relaxing and snacking. I saw lots of Chipmunks collecting food. Over all it was a beautiful day on the trail.
Wow, looks like you had great weather. Most of the TRs for saturday (including my own) were lots of clouds. I love that hike, haven't been on it for something like 10 yrs - I need to get back there!
FYI I think that is a Golden Mantled Ground Squirrel... or what I loving call a "fake chipmunk". The two places in my life I have seen the most of them are A) this hike and B) Bryce Canyon (with crater lake taking a distant third). Easiest way to tell is the chipmunk stripes go all the way to the nose. The GMGS stripes are only on the back.
