So I read in my latest edition of Sunset Magazine about some Urban Hiking in Seattle, as they put it.. "Queen Anne neighborhood is made for Urban hiking". I've never explored around this area so what the heck, something different. Annie came with. We finally found Caler street and found a place to park and headed down one of the stair cases.
We got a decent workout, and then stopped at Top Pot Donuts.. So I read an article in Sunset Magazine about Urban Hiking in Seattle.. with tons of stairs..so Annie & I checked it out today Big Old Tree and more stairs..queen anne has tons of old estates that were pretty fantastic looking
We checked out view points along the way stopping at gardens for some photos.

We ended around 11th ave and galer and headed back up the stairs, it didn't take too long so decided to head to pier 70 and see the sculpture park. We did make a tiny stop along the way at Top Pot Donuts! Could not resist Annie or hubby has never had one!

That's a creative hike. Did you get any smarmy remarks for wearing a backpack?
Great pics of the sculpture park. I've never been there.

I didn't wear a pack, wore my sling purse thing..and there were some RUDE people in the city, we got several "looks" as we took pics..we even got called "tourists" by some joggers. Whatever.. city people are just sad they aren't in the mountains.

Touron is a nougat of Arabic origin made with almonds and honey or sugar, without which it would just not be Christmas in Spain.

How fun! Amazing how much more you see while out walking. I just started doing some urban hiking myself after workdays mostly.. walked from greenlake to downtown, then up to Capitol Hill and around. Also the Chesuiahud trail around Lake Union. Amazing all the parks you find you never knew about. I haven't been to Sculpture park yet ~ maybe that should be my next hike.

You hit some of the hot-spots, especially Top Pot, but the magazine didn't tell you about the Blaine and Howe street steps in Capitol Hill (They are the longest). Next time you can add these in for extra fun, go up another 1/2 mile or so to the top of Volunteer Park for a sunset view.
There are some other great stair hikes in Leschi and Mt Baker areas. You can come up from Lake Washington and end with a cascade Panorama over the Lake.

I used to work at Dexter and Galer. There are some great routes using the stairs and steep streets. Here are a couple of my favorite.
1) Start at Westlake and Galer - Cross the Westlake bridge near Marina Mart and climb the stairs next to the 1500 Dexter building and continue up. Cross Aurora using the Galer bridge and continue up the stairs staying on Galer.
Continue up Galer to 2nd just past the Queen Anne Apartments and turn left on to 2nd avenue. Here you can go down a series of stairs and streets to Valley. You can go further but I usually would only go this far. Turn right and go one block east to Warren. Turn right and go back up to Galer. Warren is one of the steepest streets in Seattle so it will be a good workout. From Galer, you can return down to Westlake.
2) Starting at the same location (Westlake and Galer or Dexter and Galer) Climb stairs up to 4th or Nob Hill, turn left (north). This will be pretty flat until you get past McGraw. Go to 4th and head down hill to the Fremont Bridge on 4th. At Dexter, turn around and head back up hill.
3) This is the scenic walk. Starting at the same location (Westlake and Galer or Dexter and Galer), climb stairs to Bigelow. Turn left on Bigelow and curve around to Highland Drive. Take Highland west and it will take you to Kerry Park. Continue and you will come to Parsons Garden and the Betty Bowen overlook at Marshall Park (Highland and 8th). You can go back a block and find some secluded stairs that will take you up to Comstock or Lee where you can back track to Galer and down to Dexter.
