No leaders.
No leaders.
Mt. Teneriffe has hosted TNAB's Turkey Burner day after Thanksgiving hike for as long as I can remember. This year introduced some indecision since both the old "not a trail" and the new trail were marked as under construction. The new trail starts with a much lower angle and continues up with perhaps more switchbacks than are required. Almost wheel chair accessible. Water was flowing freely from the creek and over Kamikaze falls. Snow didn't start till a few vertical hundred feet from the summit, but quickly built into post hole capable depths. We climbed without snowshoes, but they might have been required with a few more inches. We were all waiting for a hole to open up, but the clouds stayed thick and misty. 2009 Turkey Burners: Malachai Constant, Flow, Runningbird, Magnum, Zeusdaddy, EWB, Unnu, Gqhiker, Moosefish, Don, Zephyr. There were more folks up there with a late start but not sure if they were official turkey burners or not (Franklin, Yana, Dicey...)

Nice. Looks like there's quite a bit less snow than when ErinB and I did it a couple of weeks ago. I'm heading up there tomorrow AM, thanks for the report.

Wheel Chair accessible
It would have to be a fancy wheel chair with balloon tires - the "new' trail is pretty rocky. It was a fun morning and I made it home in time to take my turkey out of the oven smile.gif. The snow level seems to be going up - I wonder what it will be like up there today.

My ankle cringes at the thought of this trail but my heart yearns to spend time with such a dedicated crew. Next year, I vow, next year! Well done everyone!

Was just up there today. Trail froze overnight but outer snow was still ok to walk in. Went down the long road way which snowshoes would have been helpful down to 3600'. No views unfortunately because of low cloud level. Still good to be outdoors. Congratulations to Josh Lewis on Teneriffe. Adam got Teneriffe today.

Ha if not for the clouds I might have seen you from neighboring Si as I slogged up that today. There much snow left in the basin. I had originally thought about snowshoeing from the basin over towards the Teneriffe road but wasn't sure if there would be enough or good enough snow to make it enjoyable so I just did Si.
