I have 3 extra permits for Mt. Whitney. Highest mountain in 48 states. I also have Whitney Portal campsite reservation for 8-31-10. My hiking buddies have bailed so I am looking for hikers to accompany me up Mt Whitney on the Whitney trail route. Sorry I want to go the easy way. I am an avid hiker in decent shape for a 55 year old. Climbed Mt. Rainier with guided group last year. Permits are sold out between mid-June and mid-Sept. I am flexible on travel air/car to Whitney and back. Let me know if you are interested.

I did the same route 2 years ago, and had a great time. Camped at a lake below the 99 switchbacks that lead to trail crest. Good luck!!

I have always wanted to do this, it is so close to my beloved Death Valley. One day or overnighter?

Mighty tempting. You might get a PM from me soon. I have to look at my schedule first.

I thought the same thing. Maybe EK will come too (unless he has Mt Cleveland still on his list). ykm.gif

I just returned from Lone Pine. The Sierras are looking mighty fine with their snowcap this year! Whitney was quite impressive. Just stoking the fire for what will surely be a great trip in July! The Sierras are truly a memorable experience. Enjoy.

Don, Any chance you went into Saline, eureka, Hidden, Panamint, or Death valley. I am curious how the roads have survived the flooding. I plan on going in July.

Cody, Most of the above actually! Roads are just fine. I found this to be an excellent source for the area. Hope it helps in your planning.

I really want to see a trip report, if I don't get to the Death Valley proper for 6 months I start to freak out and it has been 9 months now. I liked the link, sometimes I just don't trust them. I don't remember the last time I went into Saline Valley when the road was "legally open" I used to read the Death Valley morning report and always got a good laugh when it would report "ROAD CLOSED: 4 WHEEL DRIVE HIGH CLEARANCE RECOMMENDED" I hope you got a good soak in the hot springs

Just a short note and thanks to NW Hikers. I have 3 of the 4 slots filled for Mt. Whitney. Last call for the fourth. I believe we want to book airfare soon as rates will "climb" this summer.
