Silly Traveler and I first hiked the Freund Canyon trail. Freund Canyon is located a couple miles north of Leavenworth on the Chumstick Highway. We parked at the lower trailhead, the return leg of the loop, and started the hike by walking the rough road 1.2 miles to the upper trailhead. The Freund Canyon had some lingering snow on the upper sections when traversing the north side of the ridge. Silly Traveler was initially leading, but after getting startled by a couple grouse , she decided, I should be on point . Quite a variety of flowers are blooming.

Next we checked out the Peshastin Pinnacles State Park. No body was climbing today. We did a short loop up through the rock formations and back to the parking lot.

Your blue flower is an Oregon Anemone, Buttercup Family, sometimes known as "windflower". Mountain Pasqueflower is Anemone occidentalis and is white. Both are certainly cousins, however, and gorgeous! With some brief searching, it looks like there is an American Pasqueflower that is a violet/blue color, Anemone patens. It grows on the prairies in middle America. Mountain Pasqueflower grows in the Cascades, in damp mountain meadows and blooms just as the snow is leaving. It's moptop seed heads can be seen in the extensive subalpine gardens into mid and late summer. And that's probably more information than you needed!!!
Thanks for sharing these springtime photos!

When the wildflowers are peaking Freund has one of the best varieties around. Nice shots.

Very nice! I think I'll go (re)do Freund Canyon this midweek if anyone would like to join me. Probly Mon-Wed. I'll wait for the apple blossoms to bloom in the valley for the Pinnacles though.
Say, ST, that "hiker on trail" photo is Fruend Canyon correct?

Nice area... I was just up there today on my mountain bike. I approached from Ranger Road off Ski Hill Drive. I had to walk the bike through a couple feet of snow at the upper end. Flowers are definitely shaping up.
