Craig (Beave), Randy, and I headed up to Big Snow Mtn last Sunday. As noted in the "Dudes! The MFK Road is thrashed!" thread, we encountered a large blowdown blocking the road a little over a mile from the Hardscrabble Lakes trail, and two large washouts at the [former] trailhead. It appears nature is reclaiming the road faster than the FS alternative "E" moon.gif. We postholed a bit along the way to Lower Hardscrabble Lake but didn't end up needing snowshoes. However, it was a good thing we brought our crampons & ice axes as the final traverse to the summit on steep icy slopes brought out the butterflies knowing one false step and you're a goner all the way to Big Snow Lake eek.gif. We had beautiful sunny weather most of the way up but upon reaching the summit we were swarmed by clouds like a boy scout troop to a quiet campsite. Not the greatest day for picture taking but fortunately we had taken a few shots along the way, and the excellent company made more than made up for it. Hope you enjoy the pictures!
