I took the old Cascade Crest Trail and enjoyed the solitude on this abandoned route through Commonwealth Basin.
Start of trail
The sun shone between the trees as I worked my way along the trail and over the creek.
Commonwealth Creek
I got my first view of my goal and I was anxious to get up there.
Red Mt
I came up under the mountain and was too anxious to get up and left the main trail too early it turned out. I had found a faint boot path and started up.
Route I took up to the summit
Loose rocky route
The way up was challenging but fun. It was mostly Class 2 with some loose rock along the way. At one point I had found the trail but quickly lost it...
Finally I reached the summit and the awesome views that it afforded.
Summit of Red Mt
Snoq Mt Pano
Eastward Pano
Southerly Pano
Dork on summit
After about 20 minutes on the summit I noticed a fellow hiker making his way up. Once at the summit we chatted a bit and then learned that he was "Red Hat Guy"! Very cool It's always fun to meet a fellow NWHiker on the trail.
We descended the mountain about 30 minutes later and the trail was very easy to follow, much easier than the route I took to the summit. We made good time getting back down to the parking lot.
It was a fun day and great to meet you Red Hat Guy!
Red Mountain was one of the most fun peaks I did on I-90 last year. Glad to see you made it up there even though it was a solo (my fault). But really, Dude, I have to say it once again, your videos ROCK!
