This was our first trip to the Greider Lakes area. Beautiful area, we will be back. It is a short 2 miles to the Little (lower) Greider Lake and the guidebook says another .75 mile to the Big Greider Lake. About 1400' elevation gain to the lower lake. We only went to the lower lake. We saw several waterfalls, one was pretty cool. There are some big old trees, hemlocks I think. The trail starts out at a fairly mild grade and further up are a few sections that are pretty steep with big steps. Not for the weak knees or short legs! The trail has obviously been under some pretty impressive trail work. Lots of stairs, blowdowns cleared, bridges good, etc. Even though this area gets between 100"-180" (that's 15 feet!!) of precipitation annually, the trail was not as bad as might be expected in the wetness factor. But there is still quite a bit of water running down the trail, our feet got wet and we spent a fair amount of time doing some drainage trail work. The trail's soil has a lot of gravel and rocks which helps with the drainage and limits the muck of mud. No bugs except at the trail head. This trail is not in a designated wilderness area, but is part of the Spada Lake Watershed. We saw signs posted on the drive to the trailhead about no shooting but saw several groups doing just that. Note that there the Greider Lakes are open to camping from June 15-Oct 15 only. How to get there: Drive US 2 to the east end of Sultan, turn north (left if coming from Seattle) onto a road signed "Sultan Basin Road". Drive for approx 13 miles to a station to register your car for the Watershed area and use the outhouses provided to keep the watershed as clean as possible, another toilet is at the trailhead and also at both Greider Lakes. Continue just past the registration site and take the middle road (the other two were gated at the time we were there) and continue for approx another 7 miles to the Greider Lakes trailhead which is well signed. The road is mostly gravel but drivable by any car, only a few potholes.

We did this a year ago March and loved it! We continued to big Greider and had quite a bit of snow. Yes, the way up was a good workout for us short people, lol! Our kids hung in there too though and did fine. Course once we hit the snow the only thing that kept our daughter going was knowing she had a toblerone in her pack for when we got there. Bribery works wonders sometimes:) Glad you had a great day! We are in OR now and I really miss being so close to that whole area there.
