Gino, Dave, Kevin and I were planning to climb Olympus this weekend but when we heard the weather was going to take a dump, I suggested a Plan B. If we couldn't get the highest in the Olympics, why not settle for number 2? How about three 7000ers for the price of one? After topping out on Deception we made a full circumnavigation of Martin Peak, Mount Johnson, and The Needles, coming back to upper Royal through one of my favorite spots in the Olympics, Surprise Basin. The next day we did Fricaba and Hal Foss in the wind and rain, thankful we weren't up against the summit block of Olympus.

While I'm hanging out in the flat lands of the midwest, you're out there being a pimp on top of some awesome peaks! You rock Gimpy! Can't wait to get back and scale some mountains with you :-)

Wise choice on shifting to a plan B. The hike into Oly is too long and the area too pretty to settle for less than good conditions in my opinion, although I know a number of people who have slogged up in spite of the weather and either climbed the summit block in the rain or have been turned away at this point. Nice job adapting your plans and still getting into a beautiful area.
