After Saturday's wonderful hikes to Winchester and High Pass, we found it hard to get motivated to do Church Mt. The trailhead is at only 2400 ft.,so we were in the dark, hot, forest for the first 2.5 miles, being biten by black flies anytime we stopped. Due to the heat we were in granny gear, and got to the meadow in just under 1.5 hours.
The Church Mt. basin is lovely, with nice campsites and a pretty creek. Once out of the trees it is only 1.6 miles to the old lookout site, all in beautiful green meadows! The bugs were minimal.
After a short break, we headed down through the meadow, then into the evil forest again. We saw no other hikers on this trip, although one other person had signed the register after we did.
