No. But when I say "bih-DAHL" I don't get any stranger looks from people than I normally get.

Yeah, I don't favor "beadle", but then again, I don't know.

I've always pronounced it as rhyming with "pedal" (as in a bicycle), but what do I know? I'm from Texas. Actually, come to think of it, I don't know if I've ever actually said it aloud; that's how I pronounce it in my head when I read it. suuure.gif

I was told by someone who lives in the area--who may have been sabotaging my pronunciation, leaving me open to ridicule, and destroying my reputation--to transpose the "e" and the "a" in Bedal. In other words, pronounce it "BUH-dehl" I did it a couple of times in front of folks who were in a position to know, and was not laughed out of the room.

My first inclination would be to pernounce it Bedal as in Beeeeedawl, similar to the Venerable Bede. My second inclination (in the reverse direction to rebalance myself), is to pronounce it Baydahl, as in Playdoh, or cradle as in the Cat's in the Cradle, but not as in kettle as The Cat's in the Kettle. down.gif up.gif

As in pedal has my vote. Yup.

It's pretty safe to say that if we take all of man kinds accumulated knowledge, we still don't know everything. So, I hope you understand why I don't believe you know everything. But then again, maybe you do.

how to say bedal
you pronounce it buh-dall with the 'dall' sounding like 'cal' as in calculator. How do I know? The Bedals from Monte Cristo area were friends of my family.

Hey, thanks a lot. Now I don't have to feel ignorant.
