The "spuds" thread got me hungry, and thinking about my favorite trail foods. Ladies and gentlemen, the Big Sur Bar. Never again will you eat a clif/luna/balance/power travesty. These things are the bee's knees. Think cookie meets coffee cake meets chocolate (or white chocolate orange) meets nutty goodness. Yes, they are $3, but at 5oz and about 600 calories a bar, they are about the same, calories per dollar (and better calories per ounce for backpacking) as your clif-like counterparts, and you can break them in half to make two (or three). Apparently available at Metropolitan Markets, or order (and details) here: http://www.bigsurbar.com/

They are not available here in Spokaloo so I order them in bulk and freeze them. 100% better than any other bar I've eaten. Given the ~650 cals per bar they are almost a meal substitute. Orange Zest is my favorite......... Randy
