This is the Red Mtn that is just south of Indian Heaven Wilderness near the Columbia River. I spent the night last year and this year did a daytrip on May 19. It is often very windy on these sunny days, but there is a lookout which provides shelter from the wind.
Drove as far as I could up FR 65 (Panther Creek Rd) and was stopped by snow less than a mile from Four Corners. Ski was about 6 miles each way with some bare spots on road 60 and many feet of snow up higher. Great telemarking on the summit. Snow was fairly firm, trail-breaking easy.
Approaching the summit after a 2500 foot gain
A pan of 3 shots. Rainier on the left and Adams on the right. Berry Mtn and Lemei Rocks in Indian Heaven in between.
I miss living near the southern Washington Cascades in winter. Easier ski touring and avalanches are much more avoidable than the precipitous North Cascades. Thanks for the TR. Wondering what the snow was like down there.
