Early Saturday morning, I left my house at 2:30 a.m. to drive over towards Mazama and get to the Robinson Creek parking lot by 6 a.m. I was going to try and climb Robinson Mtn via the Southeast ridge route.
I started off on the trail for a couple miles until I crossed Beauty creek with a nice waterfall coming down. I found the boot path about 75' later and started up the switchbacks up this valley. I ran into several deer as I also noticed they use the trail a lot by seeing their hoof prints everywhere. At about 4600', I put snowshoes on for the first time and then ran into areas of rocks where I would take them off. This repeated a couple of times until I got to the creek crossing I would head west. On the other side of the creek, it was bare for a while with glacier lilies everywhere. It was quite the contrast of green, yellow and white.

I booted up the slopes near the creek for another couple hundred feet until I put my snowshoes on again. I headed into the basin with an idea to take ridge on the right side earlier than I had read in other reports cause people usually camp in the head of the basin near a tarn. I made my way up the ridge and soon I wished I would have taken the other way. I must have put my snowshoes on and off another 4-5 times because of soft snow turning into a few little rocky scrambles along the ridge. It wasn't anything too bad, just a little annoying. At the highpoint on this ridge, I could see how the route straight up from the basin would have been so much easier.

The views were getting better with every bit of elevation gain. The snow was in good shape, so I stayed in my boots the rest of the way from here. I rounded the ridge and could now see the rest of the SE ridge and the false summits on the way. There were some pretty impressive cornices lining the ridge that will break off at any time. I easily bypassed some false summits and then came to the last one. I've read that some have had a little difficulty here but it's not that bad. It's a little steep but there are great holds and it doesn't last too long. It looks worse than it really is especially from further away.
the Southeast ridge big cornices ready to fall the cornice lined ridge false summit (L) Robinson (R) false summit route goes straight up the middle, I used the snow a couple times looking down the SE ridge from the false summit
After passing the false summit, it was an easy walk to the top. The summit was snow covered, so I didn't bother digging around for the register. There are a lot of mountains that can be seen from here-the Gardners, Silver Star, Glacier, Dome, Eldorado, Snowfield, Jack, Baker, and the rest of the Pasayten wilderness. I took a few pics and headed back down. I wanted to hurry so the snow wouldn't become too sloppy with the hot sun.

I headed down into the basin and could see a few small slides caused by cornices. Looks like this would be a good place to visit in the fall as many of the trees there were larches. I headed back down the mountain to the trails and scared off a few more deer before reaching my truck.

Robinson as a day hike from the Seattle area -- you continue to amaze. Great pictures. I like the glacier lily shot. I expected more of those yesterday in the Teanaway but only saw a few.

Nice seeing that area again. Interesting with a little less snow. We hit it a month earlier last year and the enitre ridge wasa snow covered. Not sure if better with the soft sticky snow we had or the partial talus scramble.

Looks like there's some epic ski-jump potential off some of those cornices. Nice work, I'm guessing you're getting up there on Top 100s.

Beautiful!!
Peg and I were hiking the Robinson Creek trail Friday. Saw a black bear on the way back down about 2/3 mile from the TH.
