My memories are fifty years out of date, but the islands are still there, even if the canoeing and camping is not quite so great.

Something lost behind the ranges. Lost and waiting for you....... Go and find it. Go!

Comrades, Little Presque Isle in Lake Superior near Marquette. You pack your stuff, get naked, and then wade this gnarly channel. The water is bitch cold, the waves can be very intimidating, but the solitude and view from the far side of the island is exquisite and sublime. Tom PS: If you happen to hit a hatch of the Great Lakes black and biting beach flies, you will have a different sort of experience.

Kalispell Island on Priest lake in North Idaho is the best island to spend a weekend (or week) on if you love the outdoors and the pacific northwest.

I grew up spending idyllic summers on Star Island in Cass Lake, MN. Lake Windigo sits snugly within Star Island and in low water years a reed bed emerges as a patch of dry land (one would be hard pressed to call it an island) in that lake. Now our kids head there in the summer with grandparents. It is their turn to feed the mosquitoes.

I am surprised that noone has mentioned Tivoli Island in Lake Ozette. I visitied it once on a canoe trip ( going to Cedar Creek Trail) It is a very unique place seldom visited with a graveyard of early pioneers of the area. cool.gif

That's Rampart Lakes, not Rachel. The biggest one at the south end of the grouping. I've always loved the bonsai look to the tree out on the rock. wink.gif
