When I was at the Woodinville Costco last week, they had light weight rain jackets that (based on just a cursory inspection) looked a lot like the Marmot Precip, light weight down jackets, and gators -- all with a brand of "32 degrees". I didn't really need any of these things, so I didn't spend a lot of time looking at them. But I'm wondering if anyone is familiar with these products and knew if they were any good. The prices were CHEAP, like 1/3 what you'd expect to pay, which always makes me suspicious of the quality. OTOH, Costco is sometimes the exception to the rule of you-get-what-you-pay-for.

I saw the gaiters and took a close look - they look to be no worse than many entry level gaiters, if not better. And worst? You can always return it to Costco for a refund if the items fail.

Has anyone else seen the merino blend long underwear by Paradox for under $30? I have one of their poly-blend zip-Ts from last year and love it. I hope ours picks up the down jackets, hard to fault their cs.

The Paradox Merino Blend garments are 11% merino wool. After a few uses and washings, make that 10%, 9%, then 8% then 7%, etc.

I've used that raingear for years now. The pants are lighter than anything else I've found that's waterproof and I carry them in my pack & use them for those wetter days of skiing. The jacket I use mostly around the yard. I've tried the Paradox underwear but I find them to be clammy in cold weather.

Even more Costco stuff... I picked up a Black Diamond soft shell jacket for a whole $29 at the Smokey Point Costco. No pit zips and the collar is a little stiff around the neck, but zippered pockets including a breast pocket and it seems pretty well made. for $29 why not? They still have those very bright tacical flashlights too (I think they advertise 80 lumens?). I got a 2 pack last year for $15, now you get 3 for $20. They are nearly as bright as my Surefire and very durable. They eat AAA batteries pretty quick, but I'm still very happy with them after a year. They also still have the micro spikes and some snow shoes. I've got the micro spikes but never used them. I don't know much about snow shoes so no comment on those.

The Costco "micro spikes" look like a cross between the stabilicers and yaktrax. Anyone try them out?

I tried the Costco microspikes. They would not stay on my boots when hiking (my partner had the same problem with hers), so we returned them. They provide good traction when they're on, but it's too frustrating and easy to lose them.

The Anchorage Costco had Patagucci jackets last week. Soft shells I think but not sure. My mom said it was a feeding frenzy unlike anything she's seen since black Friday at Walmart.

My local Costco had Columbia "Klamath Range 2 Half Zip" microfleece long sleeve shirts for $24 today. I picked up a couple.

We got a couple pairs of mittens with detachable liners as used for snowmobiling elsewhere and general winter sports here for $22 look to be pretty high quality.

You do know that that Black Diamond is in no way related to the Black Diamond which was formerly Chouinard Equipment?

Yup, still a pretty nice jacket for kicking around.

Smokey point costco has a rep from Goal Zero with several different solar panel/battery set ups. I grabbed a Nomad 7 for $60. It's $80 at REI http://www.goalzero.com/shop/p/11/Nomad-7-Solar-Panel/3:1/ It weighs about 3/4 of a pound and with good light it says it will charge a phone in an hour. We'll see...
