Last year Karen˛ started the thread for the single best photo, which people took over 2010. I thought that was much better than a photo dump, however tempting that might be for posters. "If everyone's special, no one is."

"Best" can be determined by your own criteria, it doesn’t have to be technically perfect. Maybe it was your favourite for personal reasons, circumstances, or a special achievement. After all photography is all about capturing a moment in time, but let us know a little about the photo and why it is your favourite.
Be ruthless and stick to one photo!

This year, for once, it was relatively easy for me to choose a favorite. For more than 15 years I had wanted to visit Fairy Meadows, in the Himilayas (northern Pakistan). Nestled in the lap of the world's ninth highest peak, elevation 11,000ft, the view of 26,662ft high Nanga Parbat is awe inspiring. The two nights I spent there spanned one of the best moments in my life.

Gali, that is also my favorite photo from your trip up.gif up.gif up.gif This was taken on my best ski tour of 2011, and one of the best runs of my life. Everything magically came together after a long doubtful approach, and then a beautiful sunset at just the right time was the icing on the cake. Thanks to Shred for kicking my butt into gear on the last bit.

Both of those are fantastic! Great light certainly makes for great photos!

An impromptu hike into the lower Enchantments in September... maybe it's more the memory than the photo..

Geez! I can't even pick my favorite 12 or so photos to make a calendar for my friends, and you want me to narrow that down to 1?! This is the photo I keep coming back to time and time again when I need to little positive/peaceful vibe. It's a hand-held self-portrait and I guess I just got lucky because it turned out pretty sweet. But, like Straydog said, maybe it's more the memory than the photo.

Heh Galiwalker I was thinking about starting this thread the other day and I got lazy and didn't because I could not commit to only a single photo this year. lol.gif I was fortunate to have so many successful road trips this year, they all had special memories and awesome scenery/photo ops. I think I'll have to go with this one, a nice photo op and for sentimental reasons. I finally got to go on a hiking trip with my husband again, and that rarely happens since we had kids. We backpacked and rafted gorgeous Gwillim Lakes for two days in the interior of BC. (Look for David's red shirt in the raft along the far shore in this shot).

I leave only footprints...and lens caps. http://weekendswithmarmots.zenfolio.com

Not the technically best photo I've taken - I didn't have a tripod and the lighting wasn't good - but I came away with a usable image - which is somewhat of an accomplishment for me.

How about my favorite one rather than a best one.
