Absolutely. The only proper fruitcake is fruitcake so drenched with whiskey that it drips like an over soaked sponge. Then you strike a match and make a wish. flammable.gif AJ

I swore I hated the things for years. Then a couple of years ago a friend, who is a chef, made us all little individual fruitcakes to take home. He made his own boozy fruit instead of the nasty "candied" stuff. It... well, it opened my eyes to the potential of fruitcake. If all of them were as tasty as this one, fruitcake wouldn't get nearly as bad a rap as it does. It was pretty damn tasty, and I found myself a bit sad at his holiday party this year, when there were no baby fruitcakes to take home and devour. --Gray

Look at fruit cakes as survival food. You won't eat unless you are positively starving.

Fruitcakes are for fruitcakes. Or something.

All, It is a well-known fact that the original New World fruitcakes came to us as the bilge ballast in early Pilgrim ships. The density of the New World fruitcake is only rivaled by the density of the 3:00 am NWHikers Drunk and/or Buzzed posters. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif Tom

Ahem: prod.gif It's that time o' year! hungry.gif I have a new address folks, so if you're going to send me a fruitcake (and I hope you do), send me a note. I'll even take last years'. I'd eat 'em year 'round, if I had 'em year 'round. up.gif

I was wondering what was missing from my December diet this year. Fruitcake. The kind that's wrapped in crinkly saran-wrap with the red cardboard holder on the bottom, and that comes in 'light' and 'dark' varieties. With the red or green maraschino cherries on top To wit, what is a maraschino anyway??? Mmmm, fruitcake.

WOOHOO !! The fruitcake thread. rocker.gif So, I found a nice bargain. Freddies still has the Grandmas this year, but $ 7.99 for 8 ounces. eek.gif I'm just not rollin' with the swanky Lexus crowd, thats a little pricey, but I found some little bricks at Wallyworld, made by Hostess. I think they are 3 bucks for an 8 ounce lump, and they are very fruity and nutty. A good value. Throw one of these under your car seat and forget about it until you are stranded, it could keep you alive for a week. Beats gnawing on your arm. agree.gif

I like Grandma's brand, if that's the one from Kansas City...? The best is I think what seawall is talking about - the dense stuff with red cardboard plastered on the bottom. Just like when I was a kid! (I mean the fruitcake - I didn't have red cardboard plastered to my bottom)

Kim you checked Husky Deli lately? I hear you're over on the west side there now.
