Ranger shot at MRNP Ranger shot near the Longmire Ranger station at approximately 11am. According to the MRNP's twitter account they shut down the road to Paradise. Per @PierceSheriff on twitter: "Officer down, information just coming in, Stay out of area suspect armed with a long rifle on foot" They have not yet extracted the ranger yet. Update per Q13: "The shooting happened near the Longmire Ranger Station in Mount Rainier National Park about 10:30 a.m. The park is now closed and troopers are at the gate turning people away. The female ranger was shot when she made a felony stop, sources said. The suspect shot the ranger and then fled on foot, leaving his vehicle behind. The suspect has a long rifle. The ranger radioed for help after she had been shot. Sources said that officers reached the remote area by ATVs and snowmobiles." Sad Update: "Officials with Mount Rainier National Park announced this afternoon that the ranger shot this morning has died. Park spokesman Kevin Bacher identified her as 34-year-old Margaret Anderson. She is married and has two children, ages approximate 2 and 4."

God bless him that he should recover and be well.

Reports say he fired on the officers trying to reach the downed ranger, but they are with her her now. No report on her condition.

How awful. I just hope they are able to apprehend the shooter without harm to anyone else.

Is it wrong to hope the shooter freezes to death alone rather then get caught?

I'm with you on this, but I see now that I'm (we're?) too late. That is just horrible. I'm afraid that he's going to have the upper hand (for a short while) as he has the long rifle, but I'm all for (if at all possible) finding out what was behind this as I doubt that he's alone doing whatever he is/was up to. Then I'd be all for eradicating him and any of his accomplices. There are times (few) when I'd like to see the "old west" posse justice handed down swift and hard, and this is one of 'em. May God rest her soul.
