Laura.

We went back door to Rampart Lakes the day before, the route passes by Laura but you don't have to go there. We didn't but looked down on it from above.

I'd do that backdoor route with you sometime as long as you promise not to write about it.  wink.gif

Karen:

I hiked this several years ago and when leaving Lake Lillian a family of four was coming up from the logging road as I was heading back to Twin Lakes.  The switchback in the logging road is only a mile or so from Lillian as a crow flies.  They apparently came up the same trail you went down.  Lillian was hard to find then also due to some blowdown on the trail about 1000' before the lake.  The stream you saw to the right is the outfall from Lillian and the peak in your photo is the south end of Rampart Ridge at about 5600'.  Lake Lillian is at 4800' and Lake Laura is at about 4400'.

I remember it vividly seeing MaryLou's photo.  Better luck next time!

Laura is worth a visit in the late spring too, when the falls are full from the snow melt. up.gif

Here's a pic of Laura taken this Saturday from the ridge above.  Lillian Lake is probably less than five minutes from where this was taken.  The Twin Lakes trail splits off near here, one path goes to Twin Lakes/Mt margaret and the other goes to ^%#^%#()&(&)*%.

The other pic is a pano of Lillian Lake.  Enjoy.

Whats that little cave I see there on Lillian Lake piscator? You been there? Is it a good sized cave or just kind a indent? Or is it even a cave at all?

Does it take anything technical to get into it, or can you stroll up to the enterance?

What cave?  I don't see a cave smile.gif

It's worth checking out, and its not too hard to get to, just stroll right up.

There might even be other caves up on that ridge, but you'll never know untill you go explore.

Those of you that frequent the Backdoor trail might consider making some effort to deliberately mark/rock off the fork where the Backdoor drops down and the 'main' trail continues to the Left. I have read a few reports now of people who came from Margaret / Twin Lakes that were not paying close enough attention on the return trip and stumbled onto the Backdoor, not intending to ride that rollercoaster. I imagine all but the most stubborn or oblivious would soon notice they were not on the right trail anymore. But it would be neighborly of us all to make this mistake less make-able, especially since that with about 4 years of increasing use, the Backdoor is probably become the perversely more well traveled route to Lillian.

It might also be good to continue pointing out how terribly steep that backdoor is. The main trail is so much nicer - right? Oh ... and the bees. There's a wasp nest right in the middle of the trail, zillions of them. Not kidding. I got stung twice, good thing I had my epi-pen - very allergic! My dog got stung, too. Had a great day, though. Went up twice last week - the fall colors are fading fast on RR. Probably won't go back this season. Tired of getting my exploder scratched up on that brushy road (another backdoor obstacle we should play up a little more?).
