Jon and I got out of school early Friday so planned an afternoon party up on Pilchuck with ski friends from near and far who also brought their buds. Shred carried up his poor man's BBQ (briquets and tin foil) along with brauts, buns, and sauerkraut, someone even brought a six pack of 16 oz. PBRs!
Waiting for the coals I talked a crew of three hardcores into skiing The Gunsight then The Barrel across the way for my camera.
They started off in brilliant sunshine, but as they climbed up the other side the first hail hit Pilchuck, then lightening and thunder was crackling and booming all around us. I abandoned my tripod and skedadled back to the grounded hut, where we happily watched the storm brew around us. We could see the top of the ridge where our friends were gathered and anxiously waited for them to descend.
By the time they climbed back up the storm had blown over and we all skied down in the sun.

I love the contrast in this photo... The city vs. the mountain, the sun vs. the clouds, the snow vs. the spring clothing. And awesome thunderstorm panos.

Great pics! I was out Friday afternoon in the clear skies doing yard work and kept hearing booms. Finally saw the t-storm build up coming from the NE. That was a really weird storm and tracked from the NE of Monroe to the SW and dissipated over the Kenmore area. Heard from several friends in the Kenmore-Woodiville area that they had power outages with trees down. I didn't get any wind at my place, but torrential rain/hail for about 15 mins. Has to be one of the longest thunder/lightening storms I've seen. Lasted a good 90 mins, so very slow moving.
I was wondering if it hit the MLH. That sucks out camping having a quick moving storm like that dump torrential rain for 10-15 mins then blow through. Bet there were some pissed off campers caught with their pants down..... Here's a pic I took from my place near Monroe. The black clouds mixed in with the blue sure looked cool against the bright green. I was expecting a tornado to drop down at any moment. Always scary up close, but must have been awesome to be at cloud level or above.
