Well they used too. Found this vintage 1957 REI catalog today at a house where I am setting up an estate sale. Thought some of you might get a kick out of it. Also, check out those crampons.

Wow. They have some great prices on Hat Ornaments. I wonder if there's a coupon available...

The sale starts the 19th on Mercer Island. The actual address isn't released until the day before. Check fossestatesales.com for loads more pictures and more info. Not a lot of other outdoor stuff, but tons of northwest art (native and contemporary) art supplies, mantiques, etc.

Seeing things like air mattresses at 4-5 lbs just made my pack feel lighter.

Some more vintage camp gear. My pack feels lighter and lighter.
Paklite mattress, I swear it weighs like 8 pounds

This tent, which honestly I can hardly lift by myself

Cool, wool ski pants. Made in Seattle.

This lantern doesn't look like it has ever been used, there is also a Coleman lantern that has never been opened.

I wonder if co-op members complained about the use of models in the catalogs back then as well...
