I don't believe the BLM online records get updated that often. The claim is listed as the Hole in the Wall 1 & 2. I ran into the group that has the current claim last year as they were heading up and in. It was fun chatting with them, and comparing notes on where different mines in the area are (still haven't found the upper 3 Black Dikes, but the Imperial #2 was worth the brush bash). <edit> Looks like the name has been changed to "Orion", and found this years application request. </edit>

You can't stop the public from visiting you know that don't you? We've been going through this on the Salmon River in Idaho. The mining claim is not really anyones private weekend getaway. The government has blue signs that say not to remove artifacts. It's open to the hiking public. Everyone is welcome to the Golden Tunnel mine and mining site. Just keep your hands to yourself and enjoy the history on public land. Good luck have some fun and don't get lost. up.gif

PS: I'll tell you all how to get there someday. I promise even if I have to wave a sign on Highway 2.

We understand mining law. We just ask folks to respect our rights as claim holders. This isn't an adventure for us, its work, its how we feed our family and pay our bills. How would you like it if someone wanted to visit your place of business while you where absent and they had the potential to tamper with your work environment. Its a stressful situation. We know folks will visit the site from time to time, we just ask that you leave the equipment and minerals in place. Thanks, Gronk.

Will do, Gronk. There is no stress here just folks interested in mountain history. No one will touch your gear (they better not). Thanks

Jimbo, it's an access issue. Where is the TH? I already posted here exactly where it is but the post was removed by the powers that be years ago. Someday you can take your kid up there and he/she will never forget the hike. Thats NW history.

It will depend on the melt and the condition that the mine claim folks keep (brush) the access trail. Don't forget to be respectful, and you can thank them for the trail access. The blue signs mean to keep your hands to yourself (hiatorical artifacts). These are your public lands so have some fun, it's a hard hike. Visit google images for more.

I don't know anything more than what I've read here. A claim if there is one may not be by metes and bounds or township and range but for mineral rights at the Hole in The Wall mine or the mill site (two different places and trailheads), or both. Regardless, the miners have rights. The general public has access rights. Just don't go digging around with a shovel and enjoy the history. And don't get lost. smile.gif
