Is there any place to camp near Stevens Pass? Nothing fancy, even if it is a simple little spot in the woods. cool.gif

If there is no camping, this place might be an option: http://www.mountaineers.org/stevenslodge/

Thanks for the suggestion. But it's neither free, nor my style. I prefer out in the cold and snowy. cool.gif

I used to sometimes sleep in my car at the lower ski area parking lot. RVs used to park long term in the back of the upper lot. I was never hassled in the lower lot, but there's new management... Tunnel Creek road-end, quarter mile past the TH; about 2 miles from Highway. Not sure if the road is drive-able at the moment. Hobo camp next to RR tracks at Deception Creek. Right next to the trestle. Hunters use this spot pretty frequently. East of the pass, there's a couple of short spurs with a few cruddy turn-outs. Don't remember the road #s. Down around 3200', on the right. I've mostly used these in spring/summer... Mountaineers used to have a lodge on the mountain where you could crash for $5. Is it gone?

Overnight accomadations at Stevens are so tight that some ski area and ski school employees have been know to construct semi-permanent snow caves and igloos in the forest right around the ski area.

Sometimes there are small camps at or just down the trail at trailheads.

If you're just looking for a spot in the woods- look up the Smithbrook road.

If you deal with a <1 hour walk/ski to camp, park at the N lot of Stevens Pass and walk, snowshoe or ski up the service road to the flats W of Skyline Lake. Pretty popular spot for snow camping. Check with the ski area re parking overnight, lest your car might be plowed in. Per Will's suggestion, you can walk or ski for a few minutes up Smithbrook Road and camp off to the side in the woods.

Park on the N. side of the parking lot there's camping just up the service road to Skyline Ridge. There's a power station a short distance up the road and flat area to camp. Yodelin a couple miles east of the pass might let you camp out overnight in their parking lot if you ask. Lots a camping and plowed parking near Smithbrook Rd. and farther east off the Whitepine Rd. If you're looking for snow free camping there are a number of spots up the Beckler, Miller and Foss River valleys near Skykomish. Miller and Foss Rds. are plowed several miles in all winter. There's a nice area to camp in Scenic SW of the Surprise Lk TH. The maintenance yard is kept plowed all winter, but it can get noisy when the trains go by.

Don't forget: At some of these areas you will need a Washington St Snopark permit to park.

If you're looking for a place to snow camp, try Grace Lakes or Skyline Lake. I've snow camped at both places in the past.

Isn't the pullout at Smithbrook a "Snopark" ? Haven't been there for years but I seem to remember that.

No, it isn't. No overnight parking there, though.
