If you pay from a bank account on paypal, there is generally no fee. I haven't paid a paypal fee for ages.

I've been considering use dwolla for selling items and I don't want to pay paypal fees. How easy is it to transfer funds from the Dwolla bank to your own? Is it just a matter of providing an account number and bank routing number to your dwolla account and manipulating it within the dwolla environment software?

doesn't the receiver of paypal money pay 3% of the transaction, or something like that?

Yep, you just give them your bank account number just like PayPal. The receiver pays the $0.25 fee. That's it. You just use email address to send/receive money. Just like PayPal.
There are some online forums that do not allow users to use the "Gift" option, and it just seems ridiculous that people are raising their prices 3% to cover their PayPal fees.

If you use the "Gift" option, then that is true...many websites and forums don't allow people to use this option when selling items.

It would seem logical to charge for the added cost over and above the item sold. The gift option offers no protection to the buyer or seller so I won't use it unless it is for someone I know and trust.
Or do you mean it isn't logical to use PP when there is a free option? Does dwolla offer transaction protection?

Quote: | Just a few things that Dwolla can be used for:
Retail purchases - Check out www.dwolla.com/spots to see a map of all the businesses that accept Dwolla |
Why pay for retail purchases with Dwolla when you can get 2+% cash back if you pay with plastic?
Quote: | Peer to peer transactions - Do you owe your friend money? Send them money through Dwolla! |
Why would I use Dwolla when Amazon Payments charges no fees for person to person payments? Better yet, amazon lets you send/receive up to $1K of credit card payments / month with out any fees. I'd rather use plastic and come out ahead by 2+%.
Quote: | Online - There are a number of online businesses that accept Dwolla |
What online business doesn't allow you to pay via plastic? Again, why give up 2+% by using Dwolla? No thanks.
Quote: | Donations - Send your favorite charity or non-profit your donation through Dwolla! |
Why not just mail them a check from your bank. Almost every bank offers free billpay now. That would make my donation go 25 cents further.
Now, if a merchant is going to give me a 3% cash discount to use something like Dwolla, I'm all ears, but otherwise it will be plastic if I have the option. Currently I average 2.5% cash back on my plastic spend.

I have used PP for a number of years for my website. Since I run a merchant account, my percentage is based on how much I am running through. The price goes down with the more business one does. Still, 3% isn't that bad IMO. It is a lot better than getting 0% when one doesn't make a sale
Since I run my business as a business, it doesn't matter what checkout service I use, I'll pay fees. And honestly, PP is pretty close to standard for business merchant rates. And often cheaper (no machines, no monthly fees, only charged when you make a sale).
