I had one of the most enjoyable trips this past weekend, 8/17-18, into Larch and Chiwaukum Lakes. I went in through Chiwaukum Creek and even though the trip in was long the weather was great. Parts of the trail are a little brushy, particturaly the section between Painter Creek trail and Glacier Creek trail. I could understand how Lead Dog got soaked in his post on the same trip.
Eweing Basin still had some flowers in bloom and the trail to Larch was clear.
The best part of the whole trip was that I didnt see a single person at either Larch or Chiwaukum Lake. I was the only car at the trail head too.
The biggest drawback of the trip was that I could only make it for two days. Next time I will plan for more time there.
I have attached some pictures from the trip for anyone who may be interested.
it's great up there, Ewing basin is way cool. Been in twice, once along the river and once on the cheater route from the roads up on the ridgetop. It's a lot shorter when you cheat!
