So far, it's myself and two enthusiastic seven-year-olds. Our hiking pace is moderate, forty-five minutes to an hour per mile. We've heard word of good quartz crystals near Little Myrtle Lake. We'll be looking for those along with camping, exploring, and fishing.
The good quartz crystals are over a ridge or two to the west of Myrtle. There is at least one mine and a miner's cabin. He's up there every Saturday and packs a gun in his pack.
The fellow who owns the mine and cabin is named Joseph George. He offers the beautiful crystals from his mine for sale at cascadescepters.com. The site is fun to view even if you don't want to buy anything. No middleman overhead from that website. He has a degree in Geology from WWU and has claims in several states that he works.
Just to the west of Green Ridge creek is a wonderful ridge called Green Ridge. The claim I am speaking of is near Quartz Lake however, just to the SE of Green Ridge Lake. I don't know if the claim was grandfathered in when the wilderness was set aside or if you can still stake a claim in a wilderness area. You can contact him by email at the website above. It may be a few days before he writes back as he has claims in Nevada and Alaska which he is active with. I have found some quartz crystals on the ridge which separates the Middle Fork Snoqualmie drainage from the Burnt Boot drainage. Just go to the hotsprings and then connect with the ridge from there. It is a beautiful hike even without the bonus of crystals.
We didn't find any crystals, but we had a great time. Hiking and rambling at kid pace, you really notice the details. A stretch of the Little Myrtle Lake Trail that works up through a granite outcrop is particularly nice.
