I have recently returned home after 3 months in Asia. Natasha and I spent most of March in Nepal, trekking. My plans for the Khumbu region were grandiose, including many trekking peaks. Even though we were careful about food and water, a stomach bug wiped us out. After several days of crapping ourselves in bed at 15,000 feet, we decided to just focus on our main goals 1) Kala Pattar 2) Everest Base Camp 3) Gokyo Peak. Fortunately we were able to attain those goals. We lost a lot of weight during this trip and spent many nights in teahouses where the temperature of our room was often in the 20's. We did not use guides or porters. Kala Pattar is now the 7th highest peak I have done. I have made a separate post for the Gokyo Peak portion of the trip. Questions are welcome.

My heart skipped a beat and my gut is knotted with jealousy.
Gorgeous pics, glad you had a good trip despite your stomach troubles.

Glorious photos. Stunning. My husband and I are tentatively planning a trip back to Nepal next year to do the Everest-Gokyo trek, and I am drooling.
My understanding was that the best season for this trek is in October and November, but it looks like you had a lot of clear skies in March. How was the weather overall?

Great photos. You had a lot more snow than I did last November. I got hit by a stomach bug on day 17 of my trek. It was a real struggle trekking 7 miles on day 18. Cipro did wonders and I was feeling much better in 24 hours and over the bug in 36 hours.

Amazing photos!!!! I am SO jealous. Looks like you had a great trip despite your GI issues.

Thanks everyone!

Good question. Logistically it was more of a challenge, since I was the main organizer. Also it was more exhausting since we were carrying all of our own weight, while in South America we drove from peak to peak. During our 3 months in Asia I got sick 7 times and half of those were stomach bugs, so that was a real challenge. The Andes and the Alps are amazing, but neither can compare to the Himalayas.

It's true that the September season is the best, but there's also 10 times more people on the trails which makes it very dusty. We had heard that it' s often hazy during the season in which we were there, but that was not the case for us. On the average day, we saw small clouds forming in the early afternoon and they continued to grow into the evening. We hiked through a couple of blizzards, but overall we had many perfect days, and the weather was always good in the first half of the day.

After exhausting our supply of Azithromycin which worked very fast, we found that we could buy more in Namche Bazaar, and that later came in handy when we got to India.

Sorry about the stomach woes, but it sounds like a great trip nonetheless. I was lucky to stay healthy when I was over there, but a lot of folks got some sort of bug. Great set of photos.
