Duncan from the Duncan Ridge trail it is a mile less horizontal and 1600 less vertical than doing the twist straight up from the Entiat River trail. Now I know why most people go that way. But after looking into the Anthem Basin from the top of Anthem peak a couple weeks ago I was curious about that trail. Wildernessed told me there was water and possible campsites in the basin just below the top so I decided to make it an outing. Basin? More like a steep valley. I kept looking for camp sites near water until I ended up on the summit with a full overnight pack!

I did see two possible hammock trees near a trickle of water about ¾ of a mile below the summit and actually spent a very peaceful star filled night there. On the way down I got scolded by the same raptor that scolded me on the way up. I maybe invaded its territory.

up.gif Everytime I have been in that way it has been earlier in the year and a stream runs down the WSW gully coming off the 7800' highpoint. I have never come in that way when the basin wasn't full of snow. Sounds like you found sanctuary. smile.gif
