I don't eat ramen noodles, but FYI for folks who do. The noodles apparently take an excessive amount of time to digest. http://www.king5.com/health/224281391.html

took KING5 long enough to get around to this one. I saw a similar video a couple years ago where they fed the subjects Top Ramen and blue Gatorade. the noodles didn't break down, and the blue dye remained blue. same test was done with home-made noodles and a home-made fruit drink- results were much different. bottom line: may as well eat plastic soda straws instead. same nutritional value, same effect in the gut.

So does anyone know an equally convenient alternative that might be better?

regular old Capellini (Angel Hair) pasta cooks in about 5 or 6 minutes.

Does that work for freezer bag cooking? Also, does it work without heating water at all? That's one really nice thing about Ramen, you don't have to heat the water for it to soften up (and then pass through your body completely undigested.)

I found a pasta called quick cook that cooks in 3 minutes. It's made by American Beauty and supposedly is just thinner. I like it! Comes in a few shapes: http://pasta-products-americanbeauty.newworldpasta.com/Quick-Cook%3Csup%3Eandreg;%3C/sup%3E-Elbows-ZX002680002023ZX12

What about 3 minute oats vs. long cook oats? We need more videos!

Okay, so where's Sarbar's review on the quick-cook pasta? I'll have to see if I can find it around here. Thanks Daryl.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cellophane_noodles I like these for backpacking, they cook almost instantly and are very high in calories.

Good job Ranger. Way to show 'um the stuff seasoned 'hikers' eat. I think we're almost ready to blow up the food section. SE Olympics style.
