We have a LONG trip planned and I'm packing for a crowd. Ever the optimist, I'm inclined to bring only a fishing rod and a frying pan for provisions. On the other hand, eating grass and grubs doesn't sound too appealing. Y'all experienced anglers, help me here, please. How's the fishing in Foss Lakes?

I don't fish, but I've seen plenty in Delta Lake, so I assume the other big ones are stocked as well (Trout Lk is obviously stocked).

If you find your way to Otter, and Angeline lakes you'll get FISH galore! Seriously, those lakes are very good for fish. Fish their inlets. I dont know about the other lakes. TB

Bring Your Frying Pan
ajgoodkids, bring your rod and frying pan. If you aren't an experienced angler just use spoons & spinners, or even power bait. Bait means you'll not be able to release fish, though, since they ingest it so deep. By the way, I recently discovered that Trout Lake is not stocked - it has a self sustaining population of trout. I've never fished the upper lakes but I know there's fish in them.

My short-term memory is not as sharp as it used to be. Also, my short-term memory's not as sharp as it used to be.

Most of the West Fork Lakes are stocked by the WDFW air planting program, and the East Fork Lakes are stocked by the Trail Blazers Club which I am a member of. Most of the lakes contain rainbows and cutthroats, with a few lakes having golden trout. Seek and you shall find. Another avenue you might be interested in is contacting the WDFW or for that matter the Trail Blazers web site at: http://www.watrailblazers.org for a insight on stockng high alpine lakes.

In one lake, in one cove, I was getting beautiful light green trout with red spots with pale green halos. Their bottom fins were tipped with red and white stripes. Brook trout?

Yup, brookies. Personally my fav fish for coloring, it's quite spectacular.
