In our ongoing effort to sort and downsize a life’s worth of stuff, we often come across old photos and memorabilia. Olympia Brewing was going through some tough times in the 1970’s and started selling low end Buckhorn as a way to improve market share. My wife and I had just started dating and it fit our budget perfectly. It also helped us identify with all the laid-off loggers and mill workers stuck in Ardenvoir. Buckhorn was their mainstay. Our recent finds include an old tee shirt and photo of her holding a can of Buckhorn on one or our car camping trips.

that was some seriously crappy beer, even when I used to drink beer. I'll bet that t-shirt would fetch a handsome sum on an EBay auction!

HTT, My friend and I collected beer cans back in the 70's in W. Indiana and I'm sure we found lots of Buckhorn cans. We didn't even consider it a rare find, if my feeble memory serves correctly...it was the '70's ya know. Tom

We were shocked at the prices at the Ardenvoir Tavern in the 70s. If you wanted a beer, it was a whole dollar for a can of Columbia. Probably the same for a Buckhorn.

What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

There was no draft beer at Ardenvoir, only bottles and cans. As I remember Buckhorn was the lowest price and was just slightly higher than a tall schooner down at the Log Cabin Tav in Entiat.

Willie- actually it turns out that was my wife's shirt. I doubt you have the funds to purchase it from us. We both had one and wore them a lot in the years before we got hitched. But, thanks for the interest.

My goodness, I always thought it tasted a lot like Oly and assumed it all came out of the same vat. Maybe the price influenced my taste buds back then.

In the late 60s, we paddled up a long, lonely, godforsaken trickle of a beaver stream in the Boundary Waters Wilderness in northern MN, following a long trail of floating Buckhorn Beer cans which terminated at an illegal fly-in hunters' camp, thoroughly trashed, compleat with stripped birch bark and initials carved in trees. I formed a bad first impression of Buckhorn drinkers, but I subsequently bought some 'cause it was the cheapest stuff in the store. A passerby stopped to mention, "...that's good beer!" Ah, Rheinlander, in 12 pack little stubby bottles. It might have been 3.2-4.0 alcohol beer but you could drink a 12 pack in one night as a 19 year old. So I was told.
