With a photo open:
- Create a new adjustment layer, for the channel mixer adjustment
- Set the red channel to: 110 % red, -5 % green, -5 % blue
- Set the blue channel to: -5 % red, -5 % green, 110 % blue
- Set the green channel to: -5 % red, 110 % green, -5 % blue
- Enjoy!
If you want a stronger effect, you can either use different values (like 120, -10, -10) in the mixer, or you can make a second adjustment layer. For a weaker effect, you can change the values again, or you can lower the opacity of your adjustment layer.
I've been doing this for years. I recorded an action so I can create a new layer with one click. So, to control the effect, I prefer using two layers for stronger and opacity (less than 100%) for weaker.
The end result is a lot like adding saturation, but I feel like this looks more natural.

Interesting technique. I tried it out on a camp shot from the Tanks.

I probably should have adjusted the posted color formula; it left the sky a little greenish. The Topaz4 plugin also brightened up the shadows but left the colors more or less intact.
Plenty of ways to skin a cat, if you're hungry enough...
