This weekend I saw a lot of piles of snow, all at the bottom of gullies. They came up higher than the surrounding snow. They looked less like powder and more like talus. And these piles had a lot of dirt in them. Now I didn't see the slides come down, I just saw the aftermath.
Did I see avalanches?
Is an avalanche an event only, or is it also the jumbled pile of snow and debris left afterwards? And if it's only the slide itself while sliding, what's the right word for the snow pile caused by the avalanche? You know, "honey, look at that ?????????"
