Weight-bearing exercise increases bone density and muscle mass. Weight workouts are probably the best thing you can do.

Yup, if I had only been hiking (or skiing!) last Friday afternoon, I wouldn't have been wrestling with the calf and thus would not have had my fibula twisted beyond it's breaking point...
Therefore the study applies to broken legs as well!
