We climbed Preacher Mountain on Sunday, off the Middle Fork road. We were all surprised to encounter the preacher on the summit. He read us some scriptures and then offered time for confessions. Ok, seriously now. The snow was in very good shape. Much better than last Tuesday. We saw tracks of one person and a dog but they ended about a half mile onto the snow. We navigated up to Rainy Lake and then followed a ridge to reach the tarn above (still snow covered). Then we traversed a steep slope to gain another ridge at 5400 feet and crossed over to the final summit slope. At one point Kevin slipped and got to make his first self-arrest ever. Nice job! We exercised extreme caution around the cornices on the summit. Views were very rewarding. After a half hour up there we were all feeling a bit religious and it was time to head down. Thanks Kevin, Josh, and Michael for a great day in the mountains!

I have to admit, your summit costumes are quite entertaining. I hate to imagine what would happen if you ever climb Big Bosom Buttes.

Glory be and hallelujah! Was there two years ago to the day and there was much more snow at that crossing at Rainy Lake. In fact, no water was visible.

In spite of the miles and gain that I was not accustomed to, the snow was excellent underfoot. Everyone seemed strong. As I type this now, I am very sore, so it must have been worth it. Thanks again Adam.

I think it's Glacier Peak in this photo. Great panoramas--do you have them in a higher resolution? Thank you Redwic for the inspiration to share the good Spirit.

My guess is the Preacher must know the Sorcerer.

60 pounds lighter but not 60 points brighter.

Love the costumes. Preacher is always a long hard day. I recently learned of the TrailBlazer's name of "Buried Hatchet" for the small lake above Rainy Lake on the way to the summit. A reference to Hatchet Lake just over the ridge I suppose. The name was given in 1965 by George Lewis but never adopted by any official naming agencies.
