ME2-5603 when I was growing up. I always thought ME stood for Meridian since it was our cross street in Wallingford neighborhood.

I also lived in the Wallingford district 50+ years ago. My phone # was ME2-1704, the ME was for Melrose. I lived on Densmore and went to St. Benedicts school. I now live in East Wenatchee, for those who live here and don't know the 88 prefix is for TUrner, the 66 prefix in Wenatchee is for NOrmandy.

Interesting, moved to Seattle in the early 70's but don't really remember people using prefixes like that. It was always just the phone number.

I grew up in Yakima / Selah area where we had in Yakima: CHestnut, GLencourt, and Selah MYrtle. The central office names/letter distinctions were phased out by the early 70's.

We also had the "LA" prefix and it stood for "Lakeview". I grew up in what is now known as the Maple Leaf Neighborhood. Back then radio station KRAB was just up the street. My dad who was a Nixon supporter said it was run by a bunch of "beatniks and communists".

Our old neighborhood (LA extension) used to be known as View Ridge, don't know if it's still called that or not.

Yes, it is still known as View Ridge. My daughter lived up there for a little while about three years ago.
A little off thread, but it has been interesting to discover quite a few Seattle "ex-pats" living up here in the Sultan-index-Skyomish area, some even from my old neighborhood!

Ours was PRospect with 4 digits and a 10-party line out in rural Alderwood Manor. The article is not accurate on their transition.
