I've enjoyed Packit Gourmet for a number of years. Not to be overlooked is is the Happy Hour Pico de Gallo salsa. This rehydrates to a surprisingly fresh mix complete with a great lime juice taste. The salsa goes great with simple beans and rice. I have a question for any PIG customers who have tried the Bangers and Mash - is the serving size as generous as the calorie count suggests? The nutritional facts show calories of 1,520 per serving. Maybe this is a typo. Otherwise, even with the calorie deficit that comes from a day of backpacking, this seems like too much food.

All of the above mentioned dinners are great, I have not found one yet the wasn't above average compared to other less desirable brands. The big difference for me on these are the sodium content. More reasonable amounts in the PIG meals. Also the breakfasts are the highlights, -Dinner Deluxe Scambled Eggs -Migas Del Sol (eggs) -And the pancakes are really good As far as cereal and oatmeal, Packlite Foods is the winner there. Very tasty and a high calorie count. If you are sodium conscious, I believe the Packlite brand meals are the lowest I have found, along with the Maryjane meals.

Packlite is one of the lowest in sodium. Also, if sodium is an issue, look at Paleo to Go meals :)They come with sea salt packets. Not cheap, but very high quality and tasty!

My son gave me an $80 gift certificate to PIG for a b'day present! I understand these meals, being more along the lines of real food, are perishable. So it is better to wait until, say, a month before I expect to eat it and then order -- or is it just as good to order now and just pop them in the freezer?

Navy Salad, most of the meals are actually good for a year smile.gif They are packed fresh smile.gif And they carry a "Use by date" on them as well. the ones more perishable have sausage in them - but the sausage is separate though.

Another endorsement here. I always have the desserts if my daughter is with me, the cheesecakes are so good you could serve them for dinner at home.
